Recent fact checks
In January, NHS England claimed its figures showed more than 3.4 million children under the age of 16 were “unprotected” against measles.
This is incorrect. Our investigation’s now revealed the 3.4 million figure was actually an upper estimate for the number of children who might have missed at least one MMR vaccine dose.
It’s been claimed in the media and on social media that Buckingham Palace is in council tax band H and pays Westminster City Council £1,828 a year.
While the council tax figure is more or less correct, this claim is missing important context—in addition to council tax, the palace is also subject to over £800,000 in business rates.
Labour politicians have been criticised by ministers for suggesting further reducing National Insurance contributions would impact NHS or welfare spending.
National Insurance contributions are notionally separate from other tax revenue. But that doesn’t mean they determine the amount of money spent on the NHS or social security.
